In 14th centuries, spinel, masqueraded as ruby in Black Prince’s British Imperial Crown. Only until year 1783 the Mineralogist Jean Baptiste Louis Rome de Lisle identifies spinel as a different mineral than ruby.
Spinel has been a sleeping beauty, with name recognition and demand not at all equal to it's beauty and rarity.
